When to Go and Clothing
When to go
The climate varies according to the area and altitude. It can be said, however, that India has three seasons. The hot one that lasts from April to June , the second , the rainy one, with the arrival of the monsoons that cool the heat. In October the third , the coolest season. Given the variability of the territory, however, it is good to consider the notable temperature variations. Generally, the best months for a trip to India are from October to March. The best period to go to South India is from October to March : the heat is moderate, with maximum temperatures of 28/30°C and minimum temperatures around 22°C. In March the temperatures start to rise and can reach 38°C; in the North, Rajasthan and Nepal the recommended period is from October to April , while the monsoon is present from July to September, even if in some areas the rains often turn into short showers. In general in South India it is advisable to use light clothing in natural fibers all year round. Trousers and long-sleeved shirts to protect yourself from insects can be useful in some places.
In your suitcase
In a single trip you may go from the heat of the plains to the cold of the mountains. Therefore you will need a complete and adequate outfit, including sports shirts and comfortable shoes, sunglasses and a windbreaker. Hotels often keep the air conditioning high and given the strong difference in temperature/humidity with the outside, it can be useful to always have a sweater or shawl on hand. A silk scarf is also useful to cover your mouth and nose during car/bus journeys due to the dust and sand of the roads. Don't forget mosquito repellent. In India the electricity is 220 volts and the sockets are three-pole, English model. You will therefore need an adapter. As a general rule, don't forget sunglasses, hats, sun cream and comfortable shoes.
